The developers of ethOS, an operating system based on Ethereum, have introduced the dGEN1. This is a hardware device that is specially designed for decentralized application interactions on the blockchain.
According to the announcement, the product is designed for "daily on-chain usage." It includes a built-in browser and cryptocurrency wallet, as well as a specialized display that shows transaction notifications and metadata during network interactions.
The team explained that ethOS, which is based on LineageOS and an Android fork, includes its own lightweight Ethereum client called Nimbus. This helps ensure that data is verified quickly without relying on third-party remote procedure call (RPC) services.
The groundbreaking dGEN1 hardware device is now open for pre-orders, offering an innovative purchasing method through the creation of a unique NFT on the Base blockchain network. This cutting-edge gadget is priced at 0.2 ETH, which equates to approximately $520 in current market value or, alternatively, 61,296 DEGEN meme tokens. Buyers of the dGEN1 will also enjoy additional perks, as each device owner becomes entitled to a share of the airdrop pool. This bonus will be distributed once the orders have been fulfilled. The first shipments of the dGEN1 devices are scheduled to roll out during the Spring of 2025, promising early adopters the chance to explore its advanced features in the near future.
In August, the ethOS initiative gained significant backing from none other than Ethereum's co-founder, Vitalik Buterin. His contribution of 200 ETH, valued at approximately $517,000 at the time, provided a major financial boost to the development team, accelerating the project’s progress.
Meanwhile, in September, Solana Mobile unveiled an updated iteration of its Web3 smartphone, now known as the Solana Seeker (previously named Chapter 2). This device was created in partnership with the Solflare wallet, enhancing its Web3 functionality. Much like the dGEN1, the Solana Seeker also offers exclusive benefits, such as rewards and airdrops, for those who purchase the device, making it an attractive option for blockchain enthusiasts.
That same month, the entertainment-focused blockchain project XProtocol announced the world’s first DePIN smartphone with an integrated node for management purposes.
